The Sustainability Culture Assessment was developed in the summer of 2023 by the Office of Sustainability staff, after a review of assessment tools developed by other campuses and shared through the AASHE STARS reporting platform. The questions that felt most applicable and useful to our campus were selected and refined and an online survey was created using Qualtrics. The survey was deployed over the fall 2023 semester.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:
Development of the assessment entailed first reviewing assessment tools from other campuses (submitted for this credit on the STARS reporting platform) to identify best practices. Select questions were pulled from various assessment tools and compiled to create CSULB's draft assessment. This draft was circulated to members of the President's Commission on Sustainability for review and comments. The assessment questions were then finalized and a digital survey was created on Qualtrics and a link was shared with faculty with a request to distribute it to their students. The assessment was distributed at the start of the fall 2023 semester.
