A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

Since 2010, the Office of Sustainability, Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, and the Presidential Commission on Sustainability has co-hosted the Student Sustainability Project Showcase at its annual Green Generation Mixer event. This annual event displays projects created by hundreds of students from disciplines all across the university including:
Interior Design
Graphic Design
Industrial Design
Business Administration
Marketing
Hospitality Management
Fashion Design
Dance
Recreation and Leisure Studies
Food Science
Geography
Public Policy
Political Science
Environmental Science & Policy
Computer Engineering
Game Design
Computer Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Marine Biology
International Studies
American Indian Studies
The projects are evaluated by a team of judges that include university staff, faculty, and students as well as members of the community. Best in Show and Honorable Mention awards are awarded in six categories.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Showcase transitioned to a Virtual Project Showcase that was featured on the Office Sustainability’s website. Over 30 student-led projects were submitted online in the following categories:
• Design
• Fine Arts
• Business/Marketing
• Public Policy
• Environmental or Natural Sciences

The projects were also showcased on the CSULB Office of Sustainability’s Facebook, where individuals were encouraged to interact with any of the projects through a like, comment, or share. Transitioning to a fully digital showcase allowed students and those viewing the projects online to understand the many ways sustainability is relevant to all fields and how it intersects with economic, social and cultural issues.

We believe this is an innovative practice because the showcase exhibits all types of projects from any and all disciplines, allowing participants and audience members to understand the ways in which sustainability is relevant to all fields and touches issues of the environment as well as economic, social and cultural issues.
