A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
A Cultural Competency Committee was form by HRDI in summer 2015. This committee meets monthly to discuss issues within cultural understanding, respect, and inclusion of our entire campus community. The committee is comprised of staff, faculty, and administrators representing various ERG communities and departments. Some of the departments consist of Faculty Development, Professional Development, Student Affairs, Women’s Studies, American Studies, and Anthropology. Based on suggestions and feedback, HRDI is in the process of changing its webpages to be more inclusive of various maps that contain gender neutral bathrooms, nursing/lactation stations, and other links that helps aid in the understanding of cultural differences, customs, and events. Also, a Cultural Competency training (4 part) series will begin in fall 2015 sponsored by Professional and Organizational Development. This training will be facilitated by Dr. Mikel Hogan and Dr. Victoria Morris and will be held in CP-700 on the following dates: September 15th, October 20th, November 3rd, and December 15th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. The training will be offered to all faculty, staff, and administration through the ETC portal.
