Within 50 kilometers of our campus, we have:
--66 nationally protected areas including, but not necessarily limited to, areas surrounding nearby lakes and rivers (and associated tributaries) in addition to National Parks and National Forest land
--2 priority sites for biodiversity including the Tulare Lake Bed (for the Tricolored blackbird; Agelaius tricolor) and the Lone Willow Slough (for the Mountain Plover; Charadrius montanus)
