Yes

Name of the campaign:
Waste Minimization

A brief description of the campaign:

The campus has been reallocating waste bins and using new waste signage campaigns to reduce the amount of divertable waste from landfills. Landfill and recycling waste data has been continually collected since 2008, with diversion varying between 35-65% (mostly due to variation in waste contracting), with most recent years' data showing ~50% diversion. The campus is working with our newest vendor, Mid Valley Disposal, to optimize bin placement and to create a signage campaign with our Sustainability Club to help promote waste reduction and proper disposal throughout campus. Bin replacement and new collection layout implemented Summer 2018, with new signage implementing by the end of Spring 2020. Waste data collected over the 18-19 AY shows decreasing tonnage (~10 tons less per month), with new signage this Spring aimed at increasing recycling from 50% (now) to 70-80%, which is the CSU policy goalpost.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

The amount of total waste (tonnage of recycling and landfill) is down, ~10 tons per month, with an increased recycling rate (up from 50%) expected from the facilities-vendor-student signage campaign, which will start Spring 2020.
