Does the institution have an ongoing program to encourage students in multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct sustainability research?:
Yes

A brief description of the student sustainability research program:

Student Research Day is an ongoing annual event that highlights student research projects from the year. There are awards for especially notable student research projects, and professors encourage student research projects in their class with this event in mind.

Every year, students from a variety of disciplines have conducted sustainability-related research projects with the aim of preparing work for Student Research Day. Multiple students affiliated with the Office of Sustainability as well as students who independently work with faculty members have conducted student research, using the campus as a living laboratory and/or applied research interests to study local sustainability issues.

Does the institution have a program to encourage academic staff from multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct sustainability research?:
Yes

A brief description of the faculty sustainability research program:

CSUDH organized its first formal Faculty Learning Community (FLC) around sustainability in the 2019-20 Academic Year. As a result of going through the FLC, participating faculty (currently 6) will revamp their curriculum to integrate sustainability as a key concept into their courses for release during the 2020-21 academic year.

Members of the FLC receive course release time and/or a stipend for participating in the FLC.

The Provost has also offered to write a letter that will be viewed favorably during the Review for Tenure Process (RTP) for faculty who integrate sustainability into their research and courses.

Has the institution published written policies and procedures that give positive recognition to interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary research during faculty promotion and/or tenure decisions?:

Yes

A brief description of the institution’s library support for sustainability research:

The library is developing a set of research materials through a new research guide on sustainability. The Academic Senate adopted a Sense of the Senate resolution supporting open access publication.

The Library also offers subscription access to resources on environmental and sustainability-related topics, including the following:
• GreenFILE
• Environmental Studies (Gale in Context) [formerly known as GREENR]
• ScienceDirect
• Web of Science
• Scopus
The Library also holds a number of e-book and physical titles related to issues of sustainability and environmental justice. In deaccessioning materials, the Library makes every effort to offer them for use to community members, and recycles materials that have no further application or contain outdated information (i.e. medical and computer science texts).
