Facilities and Housing staff are invited to monthly safety trainings run through OH&S. One of these trainings is a general recycling and sustainability training run annually.
Through the Sustainable Landscape Plan, Grounds specifically is guaranteed access to one professional training per year related to sustainable landscaping to ensure their competency in this topic.
A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution(e.g. through payment, reimbursement, or subsidy):
At least once a year (though usually more), Grounds staff are offered opportunities to attend a free professional workshop on sustainable landscaping. This is usually a class offered through the water utilities that supply the campus.
Staff members of Central Plant are regularly registered for energy efficiency training courses through Southern California Edison.
Both types of professional training allow participants to use paid time to attend, and includes mileage reimbursement for travel. Most participants are able to credit attendance at these courses towards their employee evaluations and performance review goals.
