Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
62.19

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Every two years CSU Channel Islands conducts a commuting survey of all campus employees, including student employees. The data reported here is from a survey issued in Fall 2021. The survey asks respondents to provide information on how far they travel to work, their primary mode of transportation, and their commute habits each day during the previous week. The survey is also used by the local air quality control district for Rule 211 reporting. As such, it has a 75% minimum response rate. Because this survey is required by the County, administration strongly encourages all employees to complete the survey in a timely manner.

The data from the survey was used to calculate the percent of students traveling by each transportation modality and the average distance traveled. Although in past years only student employees were surveyed to represent the student body, all students will be surveyed in the future. For the 2021 survey, we received responses from 265 students, 4.7% of the total student population.
