Yes
A brief description of the incentives to encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks:
The California State University Affordable Learning Solutions (ALS) program encourages campuses to find ways to use high quality and affordable course materials. While student costs for higher education continue to rise, we find it critical for student success to reduce these costs, while maintaining quality education. Through a variety of ALS programs, partnerships, and open educational resources (OER) efforts have been made for faculty and student to have greater access to quality, affordable, and readily available materials while achieving individual learning goals.
The Channel Islands campus has started openCI as a resource to provide quality educational resources to faculty and students, while reducing direct student costs for course materials. CSU Channel Islands openCI provides tools, support, and guidance to assist faculty in accessing OER materials, support curating materials, or resources for finding open textbooks, as part of the ongoing efforts toward the CSU ALS initiatives. Take a look at our openCI toolkit for resources and ideas for affordable alternatives to textbooks.
