Bio-SWIPE Stormwater Treatment Project
None
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
The campus tested the effectiveness of a prototype Bio-SWIPE filter to improve the water quality of storm runoff into adjacent riparian areas. As part of a senior capstone project two Environmental Science and Resource Management students tested water quality following use of a novel storm drain filter called Bio-Swipe. This is part of the campus efforts to comply with EPA Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program requirements. The results of this test show significant reductions in multiple pollutants in campus runoff. As a result of this effort, the campus will install additional Bio-SWIPE filters as part of its MS4 compliance efforts.
