An advisory body that develops an annual set of goals and planned actions designed to advance an institutional culture of sustainability. The committee communicates, promotes and publicize to the campus and the external campus community CSUB's past, current, and future energy-saving and sustainability initiatives. It also coordinates various sustainability planning efforts across divisions on campus.

The CSUB Sustainability Coordinator works in conjunction with the President's Sustainability Committee to recommend, review, and pursue opportunities for the university to implement carbon reduction activities on campus and in the community.
During the past three years, the committee contributed to the creation of a campus food pantry, campus garden, expansion of campus sustainability programming, and improvements to campus commuting.

Working Title: Sustainability Coordinator

Pay Range: $3,288-$5,809
Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Staff to the President, the Sustainability Coordinator provides administrative and technical support to campus environmental sustainability programs involving recycling, waste reduction, energy and water conservation, and other greenhouse gas emission reduction projects; tracks and updates the university’s greenhouse gas inventories and climate action plans; communicates updates to the campus regularly regarding sustainable programming. The coordinator conducts research, develops and implements educational outreach and behavioral change initiatives in collaboration with campus and community partners; plans, coordinates, facilitates and oversees sustainability events on campus and in the community; schedules and coordinates Sustainability Committee meetings, including preparation of meeting agendas and minutes; and performs other duties as assigned; prepares financial and budget analyses for sustainability initiatives; and liaises with external environmental sustainability entities.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation in the field of environmental sustainability and/or energy management. Effective written and oral communication skills, including a thorough command of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with web-design, marketing, grant-writing, and fundraising. Strong mathematics skills and ability to perform accurate computations.
Preferred: Sustainability certificate or credential (e.g., U.S. Green Building Council’s [USGBC] Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design [LEED]) and working knowledge of the American Association for Sustainability in Higher Education’s [AASHE] Sustainability Tracking, Accountability and Rating System [STARS] framework.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of engineering units related to energy; ability to perform unit conversions. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment; manage student workers and recent graduate interns; write and present reports related to sustainability programs; meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
