In attempt to reduce the exposure of students, faculty and staff including maintenance personnel to potentially hazardous chemicals, biological and particulate contaminants, all CSU Bakersfield janitorial entities use green cleaning products without an offical green cleaning policy, program or contract. These products include: STRIDE, a neutral floor cleaner; PERDIEM -HP, a hydrogen peroxide all purpose cleaner; BREAKDOWN, an odor control with enzymes; and CREW NA Disinfectant, a bathroom cleaner.

As part of the 2014 CSU Sustainability policy, CSU Bakersfield tracks, and manages campus energy use for the entire university in order to evaluate opportunities for conservation programs and to ensure that buildings are operating efficiently. Before the 2014 policy, CSUB “Flipped the Switch” on its all-new solar panels in 2011. The $9.5 million project was paid for by SunEdison, part of a public-private partnership with 15 CSU campuses to build solar power projects. The 1-megawatt system provides 25 to 30 percent of CSUB’s total energy usage.

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:
As part of the 2014 CSU Sustainability policy, Cal Poly tracks, and manages campus water use for the entire university. CSUB uses a smart irrigation system which reduces water by at least 30% each year. The system automatically adjusting water usage based on weather conditions, soil moisture and broken pipes. The system also allows us to manage the irrigation during events to make sure the sprinklers are turned off.
