As part of the Climate Action Plan, Benchmark #16 includeds climate change education for all students. The measureable outcomes outlined include establishing a baseline and tracking awareness of climate change causes, consequences and mitigation. Benchmark #17 is related to being a leader in climate change research and measurable outcomes include incentivizing programs for climate change research and targeted faculty hires and endowed research positions related to sustainability.

As part of the CSU Sustainability Policy, there are several sustainability objectives that address student, employee, and community engagement for sustainability. Examples of such objectives include:
-The CSU will develop employee and student workforce skills in the green jobs industry, promote the development of sustainable products and services, and foster economic development.
-Each CSU is encouraged to designate a sustainability officer responsible for carrying out and/or coordinating campus sustainability program efforts.
-The CSU will cooperate with federal, state, and local governments and other appropriate organizations in accomplishing energy conservation and utilities management objectives throughout the state; and inform students, faculty, staff and the general public of the need for and methods of energy conservation and utilities management.

Operations

There are many energy related objectives within the campus Climate Action Plan including a 30% reduction in energy demand of 2005 building stock and reduction in building plug load by 5%. Also, as part of the CSU System-wide Policy, the CSU includes measurable sustainability objectives that address sustainability in energy in several published policies, including the CSU Sustainability Policy and the Policy Statement on Energy Conservation, Sustainable Building Practices, and Physical Plant Management for the CSU (Executive Order 987). Examples of energy related sustainability objectives included in these policies are:
-The CSU will endeavor to exceed the State of California and California Public Utilities Commission Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) sooner than the established goal of procuring 33 percent of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020.
- The CSU shall pursue energy procurement and production to reduce energy capacity requirements from fossil fuels, and promote energy independence using available economically feasible technology for onsite and/or renewable generation. The CSU shall endeavor to increase its self-generated energy capacity from 44 to 80 megawatts.

Cal Poly Pomona signed onto the Carbon Commitment in 2007 and have used our Climate Action Plan as the guide in the university's efforts to reach carbon neutrality. There was an update to the Climate Action Plan completed in 2020. https://www.cpp.edu/sustainability/pdfs/cap-update-2019.pdf

Our campus' Climate Action Plan and Chancellor's Office Sustainability Policy overlap quite a bit. We are using our GHG calculation to benchmark and as metrics for the Climate Action Plan. The Chancellor's Office has developed metrics for each area included within the policy. Each individual campus submits their campus data to the Chancellor's Office.
