All of the Lyle Center's gardens are fully organic, meaning that chemical pesticides and fertilizers are not used. The successful organic gardens work with natural processes to enhance the soil and control pests, two activities commonly managed with chemicals in modern agricultural operations.
In addition, the Collins College of Hospitality Management and the College of Agriculture have an interdepartmental garden which provides both food to the student-run Kellogg Restaurant and hands-on experience to students in designing and working in local sustainable farming.

The Green Initiative Fund seeks to enable and empower Cal Poly Pomona students to take an active leadership role in making sustainable practices that would encourage environmental awareness and increase sustainability on campus. These projects must be involved with an Associated Students, Inc. affiliated student organization on campus.

Cal Poly Pomona has hosted Earth Day festivities for many years, and expanded to a full Earth Week in recent years. The campus has brought in many notable speakers to present all aspects of sustainability, including climate change, the economy, and social equity.

There is a model room in University Housing Services furnished with sustainable products and features for prospective students to see. Students who live at the Lyle Center learn how to integrate sustainability into their daily lives.

Student sustainability technical assistants are hired to support the growing efforts and digital presence of on-campus sustainability. Students work under the campus' sustainability coordinator. Some tasks include managing the Bronco Energy Competition, posting content to sustainability focused social media platforms, and compiling sustainability course guides.
