A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
Cultural competency from a diversity perspective would encompass multicultural education, cultural pluralism, and even cross cultural counselor training. Both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs address these matters for the university. The educators who offer the following programs obtained their training through graduate degree pursuing programs or work experience.
The Ethnic and Women’s studies department offers a degree and courses [http://www.csupomona.edu/~ews/programs.shtml ] and the AHIMSA Center offers programs (http://www.csupomona.edu/~ahimsacenter/ahimsa_programs.shtml ].
Student Affairs hosts annual cross cultural retreats for students and staff. The CAPS organization in Student Affairs has offered workshops on the subject of Cross-Cultural Communication, Cultural Identity Development and Diversity Awareness.
