Cairo University established a group of centers and units which support diversity and equity such as:
1. Unit for Combating Violence against Women
The Unit for Combating Violence against Women at Cairo University is considered the first official unit to combat violence against women in Egyptian universities. It took the initiative to issue a policy to combat violence against women in order to provide a safe environment for all... The policy is based on taking the necessary measures to deal with violence if it occurs and address the resulting effects.

The Center for Combating Violence against Women was established in 2014 under the name of the Anti-Harassment Unit, but the center’s services were expanded to address all types of violence to which women are exposed. Dr. Amira Tawadros, Executive Director of the Center to Combat Violence against Women, confirms that the Center is based on several main axes, which are taking the necessary measures to deal with the act of harassment if it occurs, addressing the effects resulting from acts of violence, and taking measures to prevent and raise awareness against violence in the academic community through Providing psychological and legal support.

2. Center for Services and Support for People with Disabilities
The Center for Services and Support for People with Disabilities was established at Cairo University to be a training service unit to provide advanced services to all university employees with disabilities and the center will care for them and benefit from their energies and abilities that they possess.
The Center also works to build and develop cooperation bonds between the Center and societal entities in general and the colleges and administrations of Cairo University in particular, as well as assisting similar centers that may be established in the future. The center also seeks to achieve its future vision that emerges from the strategic plan of Cairo University.

3. Center for Psychological Support and Self-Development
The center helps all male and female students at Cairo University to prevent and treat psychological disorders and develop personal capabilities in coexisting with life’s problems and solving problems.

CU began requiring mandatory training on Title IX to all faculty and staff. The Unit for Combating Violence against Women makes available training related to Title VII – Discrimination and Harassment and information related to these policies are highly visible on the CU website. In addition, there are trainings developed related to Good Hiring Practices and Biases in the Academy. All of this information is available on the website at

In addition, the Center for Services and Support for People with Disabilities provides assistance and training to faculty search committees and by collecting and maintaining updated data on these activities university wide. Staff members works collaboratively with all academic units and faculty members in designing and implementing strategies to assist them in reaching their diversity goals.
