A brief description of the campaign:
Community engaged learning and teaching are academic methodologies that strive to engage and accredit students for working in conjunction with civic and civil society organizations to address local societal concerns inside the curriculum. Over the last three years, CU's second year undergraduate civil engineering, energy systems engineering, and project & construction management students have completed 250+ community involved building engineering projects. The initiatives revolve around student groups solving real-world problems recognized by civic society organizations. The projects are framed by a research emphasis, civic engagement commitments, strengthening university community and city-university collaborations, and collaboration with other government entities. Because of this framing, community users and community partners can present meaningful learning difficulties for students.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The 250+ community-engaged building engineering projects created by CU students between 2021 and 2023 will address a variety of SDGs. The majority of initiatives (90%) were related with Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), followed by Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3, 58%) and Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7, 46%). Industry Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) were each associated with about 10% of the projects, while Life on Land (SDG 15), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and No Poverty (SDG 1) were each directly related to 0.5-3% of the projects.

Energy Conservation and Building Energy Reduction
A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
The Office of Sustainability organizes campus-wide energy saving efforts. Three buildings with the greatest reduction in energy use will get a reward. Articles and posters, banners around campus, signs near elevators, and other forms of outreach are used. Administrative structures, classroom buildings, and housing halls are also part of the campaign. Weekly themes in 2021 helped to make the campaign even more participatory. Actions such as 'turn off lights while leaving,' 'take the stairs,' 'switch off or put your computer in sleep mode,' and 'eliminate vampire loads' were promoted via social media, a weekly email, and a modest number of leaflets distributed in resident halls, workplaces, and labs. The Office of Sustainability designed a series of infographics for the 2022 Energy Awareness Campaign that educatedabout different types of energy.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
From the 2021 Building Energy Reduction Campaign, the campus saved 670,834 kilowatt hours from the previous year, which is equivalent of 499 metric tons of carbon dioxide avoided.
