Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes
A brief description of the incentive program(s):
The Center for Urban Ecology and Sustainability (CUES) Assistant Director facilitated a year-long Faculty Staff Learning Community (FSLC) to assist faculty in incorporating sustainability into the curriculum. The FSLC is a program of the Provost and funding is awarded for meetings and materials.
The CUES also developed guides and resources for faculty to incorporate into their syllabi which is publicly available via website.
CUES staff held one workshop in spring 2021 and will host a series of 6 workshops in the 2021/22 academic year based on sustainability pedagogy and weaving sustainability into class materials. Two workshops and one speaker event were held in fall 2021.
Butler University had planned a study abroad trip for faculty and academic staff that focused on sustainability for summer 2020 which was canceled due to COVID. This program was out of the Provost's office and included a workshop series with a travel abroad component aimed at supporting faculty in incorporating sustainability into their classes. In lieu of the study abroad program, faculty who attend at least three of the CUES sustainability pedagogy workshops mentioned above and redesign curriculum to incorporate sustainability will receive a stipend.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Butler University has two grant programs that award money to faculty for the purpose of developing new courses or updating preexisting ones. The Holcomb Awards Committee (HAC) gives grant money for programs in the sciences and the Butler Awards Committee (BAC) awards money to other programs in the College of Liberal Art and Sciences along with programs in all other colleges. We decided to not these awards committees did not qualify for points towards this credit because they do not directly sustainability courses specifically. However, either of these awards committees could be utilized for the development of a sustainability course.
