The Lewisburg Community Garden is a joint project between Bucknell University and the Borough of Lewisburg. The Garden utilizes the parcel of land to offer community rental plots, cultivate organic produce for donation to local food access programs, and provide educational opportunities. The Place Studies Program of the Bucknell Environmental Center has helped to create the Susquehanna Valley Research Consortium. Through this effort, the University provides staff, student, and faculty support and leadership alongside the directors of United Ways throughout the region. We have developed a data-driven support network, where we provide research on and about social issues which the United Ways are engaged with as a tool for evaluating community impacts. Our work with this consortium operates across multiple sustainability dimensions, including health, housing, education, exposure to toxins, and natural resources.

The University has been involved in a unique partnership with the Center for Development in Central America, the Nicaraguan arm of Jubilee House Community (JHC) outside the capital city of Managua, Nicaragua. Participants in this student-initiated service-learning project help raise funds for a free health clinic in Nueva Vida, a facility largely built with donations secured by the Bucknell Brigade. While there, students work for the clinic and provide labor to assist the residents with projects that they identify. To prepare for the trip, members of the Brigade participate in a series of mini-curriculum sessions, which focus on micro-enterprise initiatives, grassroots development, and the political, economic, and cultural history of Nicaragua.

The University also operates a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) which partners with the Chambers of Commerce provides the surrounding community with free consulting - this include several small businesses. This center works as a way to help rejuvenate the economically stunted surrounding coal region, by providing education and advice. The program serves the Juniata, Perry, Snyder, Union, Northumberland, and Montour counties.
