Bucknell has created an open digital repository of scholarly works which is called the Bucknell Digital Commons. The Digital Commons is a service of the Bucknell University libraries. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected and deposited by the individual university departments and centers on campus. The digital commons is a member of the Pennsylvania Research Commons.

The faculty of Bucknell University grant to Bucknell University limited use of their scholarly articles for the purpose of making these articles open access. Specifically, each faculty member grants Bucknell University a nonexclusive, paid-up, worldwide license for each of his or her scholarly articles for the purpose of making these articles openly accessible in an institutional repository, and grants Bucknell University permission to exercise all rights under copyright for this purpose, as well as to authorize other parties to do the same, provided that the articles are not sold for income or profit. A scholarly article is defined as a peer-reviewed scholarly work published in a journal or in another format that a faculty member determines to be appropriate for his or her particular discipline.

A brief description of the open access APC fund:

Yes, The Office of the Provost offers a program to support faculty publication costs. Within the parameters of available funds the program covers a range of publication costs, from those related to book illustrations, index production, translations, scientific journal page charges, Open Access publication, and others. An application form can be found on the Provost’s webpage under Faculty Resources —> Faculty Development Opportunities —>Additional Programs

Bucknell is a leader in providing access to digital resources, both to its own community and the world. The Bucknell Open Access Policy encourages Bucknell faculty to make their research openly available to the broadest audience possible. The Digital Commons hosted at Bucknell's Bertrand Library give campus community members access to a variety of digital repositories.
