The two most relevant research questions related to sustainability are centered around:

1. Student's knowledge and skills for interpreting the commonalities and differences among human societies, including diverse cultural perspectives and traditions within the United States and internationally, to enable living and working effectively in a global context.

2. Student's knowledge and skills to identify and respond creatively and effectively to local and global challenges to humans and the natural world.

A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:
Our current questions to assess sustainability literacy are included above and were developed in 2022 in conjunction with our sustainability culture assessment. We are in the process of writing additional issue-specific questions for topics such as the rate of recycling and understanding of climate change for future assessments.

Administered by Institutional Research to both students and alums.

In the 2020 -2021 direct assessment of students learning establishes the following sustainability related outcome:

1. Over 90% of the students meet or exceed expectations on developing knowledge and skills for interpreting the commonalities and differences among human societies, including diverse cultural perspectives and traditions within the United States and internationally, to enable living and working effectively in a global context.

2. Also, 93% of the students meet or exceed expectations on develop knowledge and skills to identify and respond creatively and effectively to local and global challenges to humans and the natural world.
