Total percentage of students (graduate and undergraduate) that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary means of transportation:
76

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

In 2004, a traffic study was conducted that included machine (traffic tube) counts of vehicles and manual pedestrian and parking counts on campus. The pedestrian counts were conducted at major intersections at peak times on two different days. Additionally, a random survey was conducted in 2006 that received 149 responses. This info was projected for the entire campus and is the source for the data in this section. Prof Beiler (Civil Eng) has used students over multiple academic years to conduct traffic surveys as part of a class and in 2017 a traffic (parking) study was conducted. Data from these surveys was not available and is not included in this analysis. No other more recent information is available. Note: In 2015, the University completed four new residence buildings moving 344 students back onto campus where they primarily walk around campus. Prior to this, the students lived off campus with many of them driving to campus. So while we are utilizing very old survey data, we believe it represents a conservative view (higher carbon footprint) of the current commuting situation.

The percentage of students that use each of the following modes as their primary means of transportation to get to and from campus::
