Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Smithfield Dog Park

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Trustees of Bryant University approved the lease of a 1.4-acre parcel of land in the southwest corner of the campus to the Town of Smithfield, RI for use as a Dog Park. The land is mostly clear space without much forest and is not used for any campus activities currently. The lot will have a pervious surface and a fenced in area for dogs and owners from the town.
This parcel of land has been reviewed by senior leadership and the Facilities team as a potential site for development. The decision was made at all levels to lease the property to the town of Smithfield for $1 to be used for outdoor activities. Much of the remaining Bryant University property is considered wetlands and unusable for building, so this decision factors heavily into our sustainability plans.
