A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
Brunswick Community College's Odell Williamson Auditorium is a state-of-the-art 1,500-seat performing arts facility. Built at a cost of more than three million dollars by the citizens of Brunswick County, it exists for the multipurpose educational and cultural enrichment of the community.
Faculty had the option of attending a monthly Lunchtime Lecture series in 2010-11, which hosts a different speaker each time. For instance, Dr. Douglas Holland, Director of Aquaculture Technology did a presentation on aquaculture practices in Africa and Pam Federline, Coordinator of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants presented on the history of Scotland and England. This is done on a volunteer basis and is coordinated by Karen Ladley for 2011-2012.
The college sponsors various Black History Month activities during the month of February for faculty, staff and students alike.
Additional workshops for maintenance on energy conservation and recycling. Faculty participation in Code Green Initiative Conferences & Curriculum Improvement Program.
