A brief description of the event(s):

Starting in August 2011, Brunswick Early College High School, which is located on BCC's main campus became a STEM school. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We are part of the Biotechnology and Agriscience Network. In all freshmen classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to solve problems.

At the Mid-Year Symposium, students presented their research and proposed solutions. Solutions include creating a website to educate the public about hormones in meat and dairy products, creating a walking club for students and staff on campus, doing research to determine if presentation affects how likely students are to choose healthy food, and many others. This semester, students will complete their projects and share their solutions with the public.

Burnswick Community College hosts a 'Southeastern Sustainability Symposium and Expo' held in partnership with NC Military Business Center, March 2011 and 2012. <http://www.ncmbc.us/>
