A brief description of the campaign(s):
Science Cafe - new group intended to meet monthly at a local restaurant for community, students, faculty and staff alike. Presentation given at each meeting with discussion. First meeting February 7, 2012. Dr. Kim Jones and Claire McLaughlin are organizers.
Owner Maribel Villasenor from Mexico Viejo Bar and Grill by the Harris Teeter in Leland offered the Brunswick Science Cafe to hold the meeting on the first Monday of every month. A computer can be hooked up to their big screen tv and we will have a microphone to pass around to the audience.
The website for Science Cafes is http://www.sciencecafes.org/
We would like the monthly presenter to speak for about 15 minutes and then answer questions for 45 minutes. A PowerPoint without video would be beneficial to the audience, if possible. The audience is the general public.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
Science Club (as of February 2012) We have 24 BCC students signed up for Science Club. The students volunteer for activities. We had 5 working directly on the recycling initiative, but the info has gone out many times to all members. Of course, we are not able to get all of them to all meetings, due to schedule conflicts. We have had a guest speaker about Earth Hour and Marilyn Graham (GIT Center) has provided sustainability material for us, regarding the trash can stickers. We will have Brian Rosa on Feb. 20th, 2012 who will train us on composting via vermiculture. The club received start-up funds from the SGA and an American Chemical Society (ACS) Grant. We are a new Chapter for the ACS.
