Institution-wide coordination
Yes
A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
Unlike other universities, Brock, does not have an office specifically dedicated to operational sustainability. In winter 2018, the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre and Facilities Management at Brock University created a partnership (Brock University Project Charter) to focus and advance Sustainability at Brock. This exciting initiative uniquely bridges the operating and academic constituents concerned with Sustainability at Brock. It will provide real benefits to the Brock University community by leveraging the resources (both financial and in-kind), capacities, and talents of both internal units to address environmental sustainability issues and initiatives on campus.
The Brock University Project Charter is initially set to last five years. Among some of the more specific targets the two sides are working toward are:
- Conducting a needs assessment which identifies priorities, proposed activities and objectives to be achieved within the first five years
- Holding public events each year pertaining to knowledge mobilization and/or community engagement
- Engaging graduate and undergraduate students in campus sustainability issues and initiatives through co-operative education, course projects, and independent research (i.e. MRP/thesis); initiate research projects by Faculty
- Exploring and pursuing mutually beneficial opportunities of shared interest such as grant proposals, community forums, etc.
- Promoting Sustainability at Brock within the greater Brock University community and develop networks locally, nationally and internationally
This partnership continues to engage with the Sustainability Co-ordinating Committee annually.
