Name of the campaign:
Swap n' Drop

A brief description of the campaign:

For Students: The Swap n’ Drop initiative at Brock University is an annual clothing drive and exchange event. The event provides the Brock community with a way to kick start spring-cleaning and promote donation/exchange of gently used items. A new component to the Swap n’ Drop initiative is a “Move Out Madness”, which is a community education initiative that focuses on educating Brock students on best practices in recycling. Local organizations were in Guernsey Market Hall on the day of the event and provided students with move-out education on how community organizations can help provide recycling and reuse opportunities for things like furniture, appliances, household item donations, and large item pick up.

For Employees: The Furniture Redeployment Program is available for Brock University employees to assist they have unwanted or a surplus of furniture. The program aims to promote reuse behaviour through the redistribution of used furniture instead of sending it to the landfill. The program arranges to re-deploy, donate, or at least recycle the furniture. Donations are made to the Habitat for Humanities and Warehouse of Hope.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

The “Move Out Madness” component of the Swap n’ Drop initiative helps students redirect unwanted items to community agencies, recycling facilities or for student reuse – options they may not be aware of. Students can contact organizations such as, Habitat for Humanity's Restore to donate their mini fridge, Niagara Furniture Bank to pick up their mattress or Niagara Region for curbside pickup of large household items and appliances.
