BCIT’s Health Sciences Centre (HSC) opened summer 2022 and was designed to both LEED Gold and WELL Gold. This four-storey, 9,909 square-metre (106,660 square-feet) building is a state-of-the-art teaching facility designed to foster learning and collaboration across all BCIT health students. This building includes flexible modern learning spaces, sustainable materials and systems, and Indigenous design elements – all examples of features that will be prominent in future capital projects.

As per BCIT’s new (2024) Campus Design Guidelines, all future new capital projects and major building renewals will seek certification for both CaGBC LEED Gold as well as CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard design certification for which the passive pathway (low TEDI) will be favored. Where determined beneficial other sustainability certifications and targets may be required as determined on a project-by-project basis, including but not limited to Passive House, Net Zero Building, WELL and others.
