A list of all the undergraduate and graduate courses offered in the Academic year 2022/23 was provided by the Registrar's office. This list contained the course name, code, course description and school offering the course.
Using the 2020 Course Inventory as a starting point, courses no longer being offered during the 2022/23 academic year were removed. Remaining courses from 2020 were reviewed and the content updated. A combination of keyword searches and reviews of each individual course description, both on the course inventory provided and on the BCIT website, were applied to the remaining courses to determine whether the course featured any discussion of sustainability-related topics. From there, each course was individually evaluated.
A Microsoft Access database used to track data for the course inventory and other academic credits. The STARS course inventory template was used to document sustainability course offerings and track linkages to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each course description was examined to determine which SDGs were addressed in the teaching of the course. Apart from specific mentions of improved literacy outcomes, SDG 4: Quality Education was exempted from this analysis, given its relevance to education and sustainability education as a whole. The final course inventory includes all courses that touched on at least one SDG. For this credit, the STARS and SDG Alignment document was additionally consulted.
