A brief description of the institution’s assurance process:
BYU's internal review involved two senior communications employees who understand the mission of BYU's sustainability office but who did not participate in data collection or reporting. At their request, the sustainability office vetted each and every credit with director-level employees from relevant units, followed by the appropriate vice president over those units. Only after this thorough vetting process did the formal, independent review begin. Over several weeks, BYU's internal reviewers studied the report for completeness and conformity to AASHE criteria. They tracked comments and concerns in the STARS 2.2. Review Template and later confirmed that their concerns were met. This is BYU's first STARS report.
BYU's external review involved a sustainability administrator at Southern Oregon University, which is a five-time STARS reporter. His feedback over several weeks was invaluable, reflecting decades of experience that has greatly improved the quality of BYU's report. He likewise used the Review Template.
