The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, or AASHE, empowers higher education faculty, administrators, staff, and students to be effective change agents and drivers of sustainability innovation. BYU joined AASHE in January 2023.
Does the institution actively participate in a regional, state/provincial, or local higher education sustainability network?:
The name of the regional, state/provincial or local sustainability network(s):
The Utah County Sustainability Coalition, or UCSC, works to advance sustainable business practices, coordinate partnerships, and develop a community of skilled sustainability professionals from government, business, education, and civil society. BYU joined UCSC in December 2020. BYU also participates in quarterly in-person meetings for Utah higher education energy managers.
Has the institution presented at a higher education sustainability conference during the previous year?:

In 2023, BYU students and staff discussed their Y Talk program at Weber State University's Intermountain Sustainability Summit in Ogden, Utah, and the Esri User Conference in San Diego, California. In 2022, BYU sustainability staff presented on sustainable dining at the National Association of College and University Food Services' regional summit in Reno, Nevada.

BYU students received external funding for and competed in the following competitions: (1) two phases of the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon — design and construction, (2) the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon, and (3) the US Department of Energy's Collegiate Wind Competition. BYU students also won the State of Utah's Campus Cup for Civic Engagement, an award from Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson.

BYU students and staff serve in leadership capacities around the world. Three are highlighted here:
- BYU geospatial director Teresa Gomez serves as a board member of Latter-day Saint Earth Stewardship, a nonprofit that celebrates and promotes earth stewardship among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU's sponsoring institution.
- BYU professor George Handley is a founding board member of Latter-day Saint Earth Stewardship and serves on the Advisory Board of the Nature Conservancy for the state of Utah.
- BYU professor Ben Abbott serves as the executive director of Grow the Flow, a community initiative to replenish the Great Salt Lake through public support, policy innovation, personal action, and fundraising. He recently served on the boards of Latter-day Saint Earth Stewardship and the Mormon Environmental Stewardship Alliance.

As the flagship of the Church Educational System, BYU coordinates and shares sustainability efforts with BYU's sister campuses in Hawaii and Idaho and with the sustainability manager of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU's sponsoring institution. BYU hosts these leadership calls on a quarterly basis. BYU also provides informal mentoring to Utah Valley University's sustainability director, who was recently hired and whose campus is located in the neighboring city of Orem, Utah.
