The Brandeis Environmental Sustainability Team (BEST) is a committee of students, faculty and staff. Its mission is to help move Brandeis forward as a community of true environmental citizenship and sustainability. To this end, BEST capitalizes on the university's many talents, resources and underlying commitment to the public good to champion new initiatives and foster campus-wide communication and awareness about sustainability, energy conservation and the role each of us plays in minimizing our environmental impact.

BEST is charged with discussing the university's climate action plan, which will be implemented as part of our participation in the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment.

A brief description of the sustainability coordinator’s position:

Assist in the development, communication, implementation, and maintenance of a sustainability program for the Brandeis
campus to minimize the University's impact on the environment. Focus areas include, but are not limited to, energy and water conservation; waste minimization; recycling; sustainable building and landscape design; student, faculty, and staff commuting; and procurement of Green products. Foster the buy-in and support of students, faculty, and staff to achieve habit changes that will result in a more sustainable campus. Assist in development and maintain sustainability performance metrics to track program effectiveness. Monitor the sustainability activities of peer institutions, and make recommendations on modifications to improve the University's sustainability program's effectiveness.
