Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Start Date | End Date | |
Performance Period | July 1, 2023 | June 30, 2024 |
Baseline Period | July 1, 2014 | June 30, 2015 |
If end date of the baseline year/period is 2004 or earlier, provide:
We are using FY 2015 as our baseline year for waste generation. This is because many waste diversion categories were piecemealed in over time. 2014-2015 was the first full academic year that we had the categories "Materials Composted" and "Materials Donated and Resold".
Figures needed to determine "Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance Year | Baseline Year
Number of students resident on-site | 5,451 | 6,567 |
Number of employees resident on-site | 17 | 22 |
Number of other individuals resident on-site | 1 | 0 |
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment | 13,793 | 15,076 |
Full-time equivalent of employees | 2,186 | 1,914 |
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education | 988 | 0 |
Weighted campus users | 12,611.25 | 14,389.75 |
Total waste generated per weighted campus user:
Performance Year | Baseline Year
Total waste generated per weighted campus user | 0.13 Tons | 0.24 Tons |
Percentage reduction in total waste generated per weighted campus user from baseline:
Part 3. Waste diverted from the landfill or incinerator
Percentage of materials diverted from the landfill or incinerator (including up to 10 percent attributable to post-recycling residual conversion):

Programs and Initiatives
WYMO - When You Move Out, Don't Throw it Out. Diverted 11.09 tons of material from the landfill during move-out for charities and use by the BGSU Campus Community through our Campus ReStore. A campus-wide collection campaign takes place every Spring semester.
A brief description of the institution's waste audits and other initiatives to assess its materials management efforts and identify areas for improvement:
A brief description of the institution's procurement policies designed to prevent waste:
BGSU Green Fund funded OZZI Containers for use by BGSU Dining. These reusable to-go boxes are the only to-go option at Carillon Place Dining Hall and may be used at 2 other dining locations, The Falcon's Next and Kreischer Sundial. Single-use packaging has been greatly reduced in the dining halls as far less is being bought by BGSU Dining.
A brief description of the institution's surplus department or formal office supplies exchange program that facilitates reuse of materials:
BGSU Logistics oversees the surplus re-use and re-sale programs. BGSU faculty/staff/offices are given first dibs on items, e.g furniture, tables, desks, cabinets, etc. We work with Habitat for Humanity to schedule their pickups of couches and other items they can resell as well. Lastly, we sell unwanted surplus through GovDeals.com.
A brief description of the institution's platforms to encourage peer-to-peer exchange and reuse:
A brief description of the institution's limits on paper and ink consumption:
A brief description of the institution's initiatives to make materials available online by default rather than printing them:
A brief description of the institution's program to reduce residence hall move-in/move-out waste:
WYMO - When You Move Out, Don't Throw it Out. WYMO gives students a chance to do something good, even as they prepare to leave campus for the summer. Collection boxes are placed in all residence hall lobbies and Greek townhouses, as well as the Union lobby and the BGSU Dining Market places. Into those boxes goes: Non-perishable food, clothing/shoes, school supplies/books, household items, decorations, toiletries, electronics, bedding, toys/games...basically anything that's still good and could be used by someone else. Even if it's opened, just donate it and leave the sorting to us! These items eventually benefit the Falcon Food Pantry, charities, shelters, and the BGSU ReStore/Sustainability programs.
