A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

All faculty teaching in the 22–23 academic year were surveyed regarding sustainability as part of their course work and research. The survey garnered an 81percent response rate. Utilizing the data from the 178 faculty members who answered the question "If you are currently or recently have been working on research, how would you qualify it in relation to sustainability?" response choices were: "sustainability focused," "sustainability inclusive," "not sustainability inclusive," or "not actively doing research." Faculty members who either did not take the survey or skipped that question, we put them down as "not sustainability related." Sustainability-focused research refers to research where the primary and explicit focus of the research is on sustainability and/or on understanding or solving one or more major sustainability challenges. Sustainability inclusive research primarily focuses on a topic other than sustainability but incorporates a component of sustainability or a sustainability challenge as part of the research. Research not related to sustainability meets neither of the requirements above.
