Bow Valley College hired their first Sustainability Coordinator in 2016, in response to a municipal bylaw which mandated recycling and composting programs for all institutions and businesses. The Coordinator successfully implemented a robust waste diversion program and wrote the draft Sustainability Policy for the College. There was a staff change in 2017; since that time the Coordinator has begun work on an 18-month long Sustainability Literacy Assessment and sustainable curriculum project, received a $7200 rebate to upgrade all lighting in the main Parkade, run the college's first Campus Sustainability Month, developed a Sustainability Video in conjunction with the Marketing department, and completed the college's first STARS report. The position has always been a half-time position, and worked in conjunction with the BVC Green Committee.
