Percentage of employees assessed, directly or by representative sample:
A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:
In the spring of 2023, Boston University released a first-of-its-kind, university-wide Belonging and Culture Survey. The survey assessed student, staff, and faculty at BU and identifies successes and opportunities for improvement. In total, more than 11,000 community members participated, which captured 34% of faculty and 40% of staff.
A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation:
On October 18th, 2023 Boston University held a town hall to present the key findings of the results on both the Charles River and Medical Campuses. The presentation highlighted University-level findings and provided insight into areas in which Boston University is excelling and where we still have work to do. Some of the next steps to address issues raised by the survey include (1) the generation of a data dashboard to represent findings from the survey for unit senior leaders and special working committees (2) mapping current/ongoing iniatatives onto improvement opportunities identified by survey results (3) developing community forums and discussions to identify new initiatives to improve inclusion and belonging (4) collaborating with Rankin Climate consultants to develop strategies to address survey-driven issues impacting inclusion and belonging (5) developing and posting an accountability roadmap to the belonging and culture survey website, and (6) in 2026, administering a second university-wide Belonging and Culture Survey.
