Historically, Boston University's (BU) total campus area was based on the size of its two main campuses in Boston, the Charles River Campus and Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC);is 130 acres. On December 7, 2017 BU, formally adopted a new Climate Action Plan which redefined the campus area to include all property owned globally, including two additional properties in New England, Tanglewood in eastern Massachusetts and Sargent Center in southern New Hampshire. Tanglewood is 64 acres and Sargent Center is 678 acres. In addition, BUMC utilizes a 35-acre farm in Holliston, MA for forensic research. On June 1, 2018, Wheelock College (5 acres) merged with BU, becoming the Fenway Campus.
