With grant funding and resources offered by BU Sustainability and Innovate@BU, students are empowered to kick-start a project or develop an intervention that tackles the leading sustainability challenges facing Boston University. Sustainability innovations should provide solutions for Boston University, but preference is given to those that also have an impact beyond campus. They must meet one or more of the recommendations outlined in the Boston University Climate Action Plan, and should relate to one of these five topics: Climate change resilience, Emissions and energy, Education and engagement, Environmental Justice, Zero Waste.


A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:

Project submissions are evaluated based on the following criteria:
1) Impact on the BU campuses and community
2) Connection to the BU Climate Action Plan
3) Clarity of the plan
4) Originality
5) Ability to complete
Preference is given to projects that are scalable beyond BU.
