Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Innovate@BU is a University-wide initiative to create opportunities for hands-on innovation, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and networking for all BU students. The program includes "partnerships with the city of Boston, the commonwealth, and the local innovation community to identify important problems that students and faculty can collaborate on solving". This program is housed in the BUild Lab: a new space on campus with offices to program leaders and mentors, meeting rooms and workspaces, oversized video screens, and lots of open space. In addition to workspace, BUild Lab hosts workshops, hackathons, classes, and networking opportunities with "experienced innovators from industry, government, nonprofits, and the arts". Examples, of sustainability-focused projects Innovate@BU has supported are Flux Marine which has designed an “electric outboard propulsion system” for boats. This technology is more reliable and cleaner than a typical gas propulsion system.
