Historically, Boston University's (BU) total campus area was based on the size of its two main campuses in Boston, the Charles River Campus, and Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC); roughly 130 acres. On December 7, 2017 BU formally adopted a new Climate Action Plan which redefined the campus area to include all property owned globally. The two additional properties in New England, Tanglewood in eastern Massachusetts and Sargent Center in southern New Hampshire largely affects the change in BU's campus area number for fiscal year 2018. Tanglewood is 64 acres and Sargent Center is 673 acres. In addition, BUMC utilizes a 35-acre farm in Holliston, MA for forensic research. On June 1, 2018, Wheelock College (5 acres) merged with BU, becoming the Fenway Campus; this campus will also be included in our institutional boundary for the last month of the 2018 fiscal year.
We do not plan to update these changes in BU's previous STARS reports.
