A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In November, 2012, BU Professors Robert K. Kaufmann and Cutler J. Cleveland announced the publication of the world’s first entirely web-based introductory textbook on environmental science: Environmental Science. The textbook utilizes technology to create an engaging and interactive web of video, image, and text content which transcends the abilities of a traditional textbook. The textbook includes learning tools such as case studies, key concepts, review questions, electronic highlighting, and an integrated glossary. This innovation also encourages students and teachers of environmental science to act sustainably by reducing the amount of materials they consume through the use of the electronic rather than paper textbook.
