A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the inventory:
The University course inventory was developed by Institutional Research and includes all for-credit courses offered from the beginning of the Spring 2009 semester until the end of the Fall 2011 session.
Using this course inventory, a sustainability@BU intern further refined the qualifying courses by eliminating any .5 credit courses, 1 credit academic labs (not including pdp or music labs which are unique courses), physical education courses offered through the Fitness and Recreation Center (except for those that may count towards a degree), internships, externships, practicums, international courses, independent study, directed study and directed research, theses, dissertations, advisement, student teaching, and any courses that were repeated due to a change in the course number over the three year inventory.
The reasons for eliminating the categories of courses above include ambiguity in subject for the independent, directed study or research, and theses and dissertation courses, and those offered entirely or mostly off-campus.
