A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:

The culture supports employee's service initiatives by offering time-away from the office. For example, the BC Police Dept. takes a community-oriented policing approach to covering the campus and off-campus neighborhoods. Employees volunteer for a weekly reading program at St. Columbkille school.

Number of students enrolled for credit is undergraduate day students (not graduate) from Fact Book for Fall 2019.
Student volunteer service data (# of students and hours) were obtained from the Economic Impact Study conducted April, 2021. Graduate service hours were deleted to match the UG % volunteer (methodology described below)

Methodology
The Student Experience Survey was administered online from October 2018 - December 2018 to all enrolled undergraduate students from all class years. The survey yielded a response rate of 26%. A total of 2,417 student participated in the Student Experience Survey.

This survey item on the survey used for this STARS report was: "While at Boston College, how often have you...participated in volunteer work or community service" and the Item Scale was: "Very often, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, and Never". The 86.5% percentage is the sum of students who selected "Very often", "Often", "Sometimes" or "Rarely" (i.e., any option except for "Never").
