Sustainability Culture Assessment 

In the Spring of 2022 a survey was sent to a representative sample of sophomores and juniors. The survey carried out by students doing their capstone project.The survey consisted of both multiple choice and open responses. The questions and more information can be found via the link.

Notable findings:

91% of respondents were moderately to very certain that human-caused climate change is happening.

83% of respondents were moderately to very concerned about climate change

41% of respondents believe that sustainability is extremely or very important to their career path.  

Before students took their knowledge-based survey questions, the surveyors wanted to see how comfortable students were with sustainability. This helped the surveyors to compare their confidence vs. their test results. 

66% of them think they are somewhat knowledgeable about sustainability and know it when they see it.

30% of them think they are very knowledgeable and could explain it to others

4% think they are not sure or have no knowledge about the topic.

Description of the process used to measure or estimate the percentage of students assessed for sustainability culture:

A random, representative sample of sophomores and juniors was surveyed.  The sample was selected by Institutional Research. 180 students responded to the survey.
