TThe Sustainability Governance Council will provide guidance and make recommendations to university leadership regarding campus sustainability priorities. Working with student groups as appropriate, the Council will form a collective vision for sustainability and coordinate the annual data collection and reporting under the AASHE Stars system. Support will be provided by the Campus Sustainability Office.

The Sustainability in Academics and Research Subcommittee will coordinate data collection and reporting under AASHE STARS categories of Academics and Research, including but not limited to information related to sustainability in academic courses, learning outcomes, undergraduate and graduate programs, literacy, and research.

Chair will serve as the Subcommittee’s representative to the SGC. Inaugural Chair will be designated by the COO. Future Chairs will be elected from among the members. Support will be provided by the Campus Sustainability Office.

The Sustainability Engagement Subcommittee will coordinate data collection and reporting under AASHE STARS category of Engagement, which includes but is not limited to sustainability across all aspects of campus life for employees and students plus outreach, culture, professional development, community partnerships and community service.

Chair will serve as the Subcommittee’s representative to the SGC. Inaugural Chair will be designated by the COO. Future Chairs will be elected from among the members. Support will be provided by the Campus Sustainability Office.

The Sustainability in Operations Subcommittee will coordinate data collection and reporting under AASHE STARS category of Operations, which includes but is not limited to emissions, buildings, energy, food/dining, grounds, purchasing, transportation, waste and water.

Chair will serve as the Subcommittee’s representative to the SGC. Inaugural Chair will be designated by the COO. Future Chairs will be elected from among the members. Support will be provided by the Campus Sustainability Office.

A brief description of each sustainability office:

Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability ensures the safety of the campus, its grounds and people, while also striving towards the best sustainability practices. Within EHSS, the department of Boise State Campus Sustainability builds empowered, equitable, resilient communities by facilitating education, diverse collaboration, and civic engagement to create an ever-growing healthy and sustainable university.

The Extra Mile Arena office of Operations includes housekeeping services as well as sustainable operations to run the arena as efficiently as possible, implementing programs to save energy, water, and waste.

Facilities Operations and Maintenance supports the university’s strategic mission by professionally maintaining safe, functional and attractive facilities and grounds, while also providing quality support services to the campus community. FOM prioritizes waste diversion, water conservation, and energy efficiency in its operations when possible.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:

The Office of Campus Sustainability, situated within Campus Operations under Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability, serves the entire campus in coordinating student engagement, education, and campus planning in sustainability. This office has developed volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and interested community members to actively divert waste from the landfill at large events, First Year Orientation, and in the residence halls. In addition, Campus Sustainability has supported and coordinated the development of the Sustainability Governance Council, an interdisciplinary campus-wide decision making body to drive the future of Boise State’s sustainability mission.
