A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
Community garden run by sustainability club. The goal of this garden is to promote sustainable living and help supplement students' and faculties’ diets by providing free and fresh vegetables. In the garden there are raised beds, hydroponics systems, an area for composting, and a water management system. Current goals to improve this garden include improving our composting, adding worms to the soil, and a recycling program.
This garden is open and available to the public. There is no fencing or restriction from access and it is located on a resident street, so the neighbors surrounding the garden have all been invited to adopt a garden box for their own management. Non-campus community members come in to use this space and engage with students about different properties around gardening, such as our resident worm-expert Jan - a retiree who has helped get our worm program up and running. In addition, there is a strong community-partnership with local businesses who have donated soil, sand, rocks, or other materials to keep the garden up and running.
