Example 2: Sustainability Reporting Badge Program
Boise State’s Blue Sky Institute hosted the Sustainability Reporting Badge Program, which is a year long, voluntary immersive experience for students interested in learning sustainability reporting. The end result is a student-led and student-driven sustainability report. Each year, students learn about the three areas of sustainability: financial, environmental and social. The students receive the opportunity to learn three major reporting frameworks (ASHEE Stars, GRI, and UNPRME) and use those frameworks to produce a sustainability report. During the year, students conduct a stakeholder materiality assessment, collect and analyze data, and create recommendations based on data to the colleges that participate. Over the course of the year, students receive hands-on experience driving chate at the college level. Each student receives a Sustainability Reporting Badge recognized by the Idaho Department of Education showcasing their understanding of sustainability.
