In addition to policy which requires qualifying new construction and renovations to meet LEED Silver standards and for all appliance purchases to be certified Energy Star or equivalent, if available, when making purchases of items that consume electricity or water, BHSU policy requires consideration of the total cost of ownership of the product in addition to the initial cost, specifically:
• When feasible, LED lighting will be used in all new construction and lighting updates
• New construction should tie into BHSU’s building automation system
• Where applicable, low flow plumbing and automatic valves that meet LEED requirements should be used for renovation and new construction bathrooms
• Electric carts should be purchased before gasoline or diesel vehicles, when practical, for inter-campus use
