The Sustainability Committee is comprised of members representing all parts of the campus using AASHE's STARS as the members selection guide. The committee is scheduled to meet twice a year and each committee member is charged with responsibilities to identify actionable items, devise implementation strategies, recommend the most cost-effective options, implement solutions and report progress to her on a regular basis.

Binghamton University's sustainability efforts involve students, faculty and staff across various disciplines and responsibility areas. Although there is no dedicated "sustainability office", the University continues to track progress made and make results available through reporting to organizations such as AASHE and SIMAP.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The Sustainability Committee meet and correspond on a regular basis to share new ideas and promote new initiatives. STARS report is used to guide most our members to adopt sustainable practices in their respective responsible areas. This committee has worked together to formulate a Sustainability Plan which was formally approved by the Faculty Senate. This 5-year plan sets six goals to focus our near term efforts in improving sustainability literacy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing fossil fuel based transportation, increasing recycling and reuse rates, and completing a Living Building as a laboratory for sustainable teaching and learning.

This position has the responsibilities to chair the Sustainability Committee and hold regular meetings with certain core group members whose areas of functions have deep and wide impacts of our mission and operations.
